A new study conducted by UCLA charges that naturalizing illegal immigrants would add a whopping $1.5 trillion to the national economy.
The revelation is significant because there is a widespread assumption among opponents of legislative proposals to transition illegal immigrants to citizenship status that such a move would add new layers of financial duress to an already fragile economy.
The result was discussed by the Partnership for a New American Economy at the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, as part of a panel discussion among immigration experts, mayors and business leaders. By Luis R. Perez

A Washington Post columnist lauds the US Department of Homeland Security’s public commitment to tweak the current immigration law to allow professionals with startups and hard skills, such as scientists, engineers and doctors, to remain in the country once their individual visas expire. According to the columnist, a significant number of professionals with specialized skills are leaving to other countries in “droves,” and this exodus is limiting the country’s ability to attract and retain business investments and intellectual capital in a highly-competitve global market.
