The Justice Department is suing South Carolina over a state law that takes action against illegal immigrants.

The article from Politico.com explains that the law will allow local law enforcement to check the status of every person they detain with the aim of reducing crime by illegal immigrants.

Critics of the law have said that it may also lead to legal immigrants and even U.S. citizens being detained longer than usual.

The article gives both sides of the debate and even mentions that S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, the daughter of immigrant parents, supports the law and emphasized that her parents came to the U.S. legally. This gives an indication of the divide between those whose parents came to the U.S. legally and others who came illegally.

But the story would have been much more vivid with quotes from Immigration activists or organizations in response to this issue.
